Speech Pathology Australia funds and supports speech pathology research through its annual Research Grant Program. There are four grant categories:
- Nadia Verrall Memorial Research Grant (offered every two years) (Round 1 grants)
- Practitioner-Researcher Partnership Grant (Round 1 grants)
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Grant (Round 2 grants)
- New Researcher Grant (Round 2 grants)
Two grant rounds are available to Speech Pathology Australia members each year, with Round 1 for grant categories 1 & 2, and Round 2 for grant categories 3 & 4. Grant applications within each category undergo a review and selection process.
Submissions for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Grant and the New Researcher Grant are now open, with a closing date of 25 July 2025.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Grant
One Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Grant of $18,000 is being offered. This grant reflects Speech Pathology Australia’s commitment to Reconciliation and aims to generate evidence to support culturally responsive, evidence-based services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. It also provides an opportunity for collaborative research in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities, encompassing all stages from project design to dissemination of findings.
New Researcher Grants
Two New Researcher Grants to a maximum value of $18,000 each are offered. Eligible applicants are speech pathologists without formal research training, those enrolled in a Higher Degree by research program (e.g., Masters or PhD), and those who were awarded a postgraduate research degree (e.g., Masters or PhD) in the two years prior to applying for the grant.
